I bought a bird bath yesterday.
It's my first one.
I carefully assembled it and put it up, filled it up with fresh water and waited.
I thought, "If I build it, they will come."
But then they didn't.
And then I realized, how will the birds know about my bird bath?
I could put an ad on Craig's List.
But they don't read. Or have internet.
I could put out a "vacancy" sign.
But again, they don't read.
What happens now? I'm confused.
Do they just fly by and spot it, make a screeching halt and a u-turn because they were looking for a place to shower?
Do I count on word of mouth? How does this work?
Should I put neon on the sign?
So far the only one whose played in the birdbath is my 2 year old and to be honest, I don't see how I'm going to ever leave my house with him without him being magnetically pulled to go play in it. This is going to be a mess for a while until he's used to it being there and the novelty is lost.
Then again, a little pool of water at eye-level is never lost on a 2 year old.
It's like a tall puddle.
Also, he's not spreading the word for me to the birds about it being open. Which is the very least he could do if he's playing in it.
I guess a bird's just going to have to stumble on it by chance and then go back and tell all his bird friends.
So until then I guess I'll just wait.
It's too bad they don't know it's there. It really is pretty cool.
So if you see any birds, can you let them know to tell their friends that there is a brand new bathhouse open at my house?
Never been used.
Except for a two-year-old.
Which doesn't count.

This may sound weird, but that bird bath fits you to a "T".
Maybe sprinkle some bird seed around the base? Or have a bird decoy? Or play tweeting birds music?
Or, if you're REALLY desperate, you could get a fairy tale soon-to-be princess to sew out there. They ALWAYS attract cute little blue birds with ribbons!
You live close enough to The Mouse's House to make that happen, right?
I second the bird-seed idea. They will be suspicious of it at first--give them time to get used to seeing it around. A flashing neon sign saying 'bathe here, birdies!' might not hurt, either!
I have no idea how to entice them as we have a bird bath but they had been using it for years when we moved in. But your bird bath? Uber cool. I'd take a bath in it. If it were indoors. And bigger.
All I can say is, that's one gorgeous bird bath! If I were a bird, I'd be so there, kicking up my little twiggy talons and sipping a millet mojito or something.
Hehehe, you are awesome. :) I've never had a bird bath. Now I kinda want one.
That is a beautiful bird bath! I'm sure once they catch wind of the classy new upscale bath they will come flocking!
Hope things are well...miss you guys!
