Did you know that this month is Childhood Cancer Awareness month?
I hate cancer. I hate it for everyone and I especially hate it for our babies.
My dear friend Kirsten (who will be running the Disney Marathon with me) is selling Bondi Bands to help raise money for her niece's family. Her niece is 14 and was diagnosed recently with Ewing's sarcoma, which is a rare disease known to target teenagers, and where cancer cells are found in tissue or bone (according to Wikipedia). She is now undergoing aggressive chemotherapy for it. This is from Kirsten's fundraising event page:
As some of you know my 14-year-old niece, McKenna, was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma last month. She is currently undergoing an intensive chemotherapy regimen that is 28 weeks long.I have bought two Bondi Bands, one for myself and one for one of you! They both say "You can...and you WILL!" on them.
I am selling BondiBands (www.bondiband.com) to help raise money for her family as they travel back and forth between Carson City and Oakland for her treatments. This travel means missed work for her parents along with the extra expenses of the travel itself.
I will be selling the BondiBands for the same $8 value you'll find at the website with $4.50 of every one going directly to McKenna's family.
Which is something I so often have to remind myself. Constantly, really. (You can read more about exactly how much I love Bondi Bands in general in the review I published last month, if you don't know about Bondi Band yet, which you should, I love them that much.)
This is going to be a short giveaway because even though I'm giving one away, I would love it if those of you who didn't win would go buy one from Kirsten so that you can help her niece's family. Won't you spread the word? Here is the Facebook page so you can read more about it.
The giveaway rules are as follows:
- Leave me a comment honoring any special person in your life who's battled cancer.
- For another entry, hit "Attend" on McKenna's Facebook Fundraiser page
- For a third entry, "share" the event's fundraising page on your profile (there is a button at the top of the page that says "share.")
- Finally, tweet about helping McKenna and link to the Facebook page! Kirsten will be ordering more Bondi Bands -- she's selling out quickly!
Let's help McKenna kick some cancer butt!

You are making me all teary. Love you so much for doing this, Christie. Seriously. You have made my heart so happy today.
This is a cause near and dear to my heart. I am running the Disney half with Caleb's Crusade, an organization whose mission is to help families with children battling cancer. Caleb Whan died at the tender age of four to a rare form of cancer and his parents went on to form this group to help other families. I run for Caleb!
And since I'm all about kicking some serious cancer butt...I am now "attending" the facebook event and will tweet this as well.
I'm running the Nike Half-Marathon in October in honor of 5 year old Ja'Naya. She is currently kicking leukemia's ass!
I clicked attend on her fundraising fb page.
I shared the link on my fb page.

D*@# cancer!!!! My uncle has just recently been diagnosed with a glioblastoma (the most agressive type of brain cancer)...and while he seems to be doing well post surgery and with the radiation and chemo, the prognosis is not good. A dear friend's 4yo little girl had a brain tumor removed a couple of months ago...it just breaks my heart hearing about how her little girl is not feeling herself.
Thanks for sharing the information about the fundraiser. I was seriously thinking about buying a Bondi Band anyway, but now that I know that they will donate towards McKenna's family, I'm doing it now...never can have too many, right? ;-)
"Attending" Fundraiser for McKenna!
"shared" the event on my FB page. ;-)
What a wonderful post! My cousin and aunt both died from breast cancer and I've known/met two kids in my lifetime that have had cancer. A kid named Eddie that went to my school and kid named Samantha that I met a few years ago.
Attending.
Posted on my profile and guests are invited.

My mother had breast cancer and had a mastectomy. It's a hard thing to go through. I despise cancer. I am praying for this young girl!
I am posting in honor of my dad, who died from leukemia at age 25, and my father-in-law, who is in remission after lung cancer treatment.
Attending!
Shared the event on my facebook wall!
And tweeted, username JeninND. I will be ordering to help with the fundraising too. Great giveaway!!
Too many people to mention them all, of course. But both my grandmothers have battled one form or another of cancer, and my MIL has battled and beat breast cancer twice. Cancer sucks.
I'm attending and shared on fb, but why didn't I tweet about it??? I'm off to do it now!
christie you are an amazing friend!!
I have lost my grandfather and uncle to cancer.
my papaw charlie battled lung cancer for 2 years. ultimatly seeing his father die a slow and painful death (due to smoking) made my dad realize that he needed to give up his skoal habit. i guess every man thinks that they are invincible. my papaw was 80 when he died, and while i wish we would have had him around longer, i'm very grateful for those extra years with my dad he has given me.
already "attending" and have bought 2 already :)
My friend's 3 yr old sister at the time lost her life to leukemia. Also have a friend that is a leukemia survivor.
attending
shared on FB and bought 2 myself. :)
